Montgomery, Alabama, September 30, 2026 – The Alabama International Education and Economic Partnership (ALIEEP) is taking on a key role in a new international partnership that opens doors for Alabama students. The signing of the Taiwan–Alabama High-Tech Scholarship agreement marks a major milestone in strengthening educational and workforce connections between Alabama and Taiwan. As the Alabama Commission on Higher Education’s designated working group and liaison, ALIEEP will help put the agreement into action by coordinating with international partners, supporting program activities, and connecting Alabama’s higher education community with this exciting opportunity.

The five-year agreement brings together ACHE, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta to establish five scholarship positions annually for Alabama students pursuing undergraduate or master’s degrees in high-technology fields in Taiwan. The partnership supports talent development in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. Through its coordination and implementation role, ALIEEP will help build lasting connections among students, educators, and international partners—expanding access to global learning and helping prepare Alabama talent for the industries shaping tomorrow.

In this role, ALIEEP will support ongoing coordination between ACHE and Taiwan’s education partners. Under ACHE’s direction, ALIEEP will support program implementation and maintain communication among participating partners. The agreement calls for annual working-group meetings, providing a regular opportunity to review progress and plan future activities.

The program also establishes a clear path for identifying Alabama talent: ACHE will recommend five students and two alternates each year, with final selection handled by Taiwan’s designated education office. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education will provide information about admission requirements, tuition, living expenses, insurance, and available financial assistance, helping prospective participants understand the opportunity and prepare for studying abroad.
