[End-of-Year Performance] Pike Road High School & Junior High School Korean Class
May 10 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
On May 10th, Pike Road High School (PRHS) and Junior High (PRJH) Korean class students came together for their End-of-Year (EOY) performance, titled Ak Ga Mu, held at Saint James Church. This vibrant event, representing Korean traditional music, featured 8 special stages and 6 class presentations, showcasing a fusion of instrumental, vocal, and choreographic talents. Beyond linguistic skills, the performance celebrated cultural immersion, collaboration, and personal growth.
In the academic year 2021-2022, PRHS made history as the first Alabama high school to offer accredited Korean language courses, thanks to the visionary support of Dr. Chuck Ledbetter, former superintendent and his partnership with AKEEP/ALIEEP. The event’s success was made possible through the dedication of Ms. Mary Chon, the esteemed Korean language teacher at PRHS, and the invaluable assistance of Paul Lee, a volunteer contributing remotely from Korea.
Meesoon Han, the executive director of ALIEEP, underscored the significance of multicultural diversity and the vital role of critical language education, highlighting its enduring value for students’ future endeavors. She sincerely appreciates all the students’ collaboration and local volunteers’ contributions from start to end. As the performance drew to a close, anticipation for next year’s showcase filled the air, marking not only an end but also a promising new beginning.
