About The Event

ALIEEP and the City of Montgomery Department of Cultural Affairs co-hosted a Lunar New Year Kite Festival, a multicultural celebration to bring in new beginnings and the new year. This event brought together cultural organizations and businesses to provide diverse and enriching experiences for community members. Attendees had the chance to engage in various cultural activities, including traditional Indian and Korean games, and taste food from all over the globe. ALIEEP hosted two competitions to get the community involved – a kite flying competition and Rangoli art making competition. Participants pre-registered for the competitions and had the chance to win grand prizes sponsored by the Department of Cultural Affairs.

Rangoli is an ancient Indian art form involving the creation of vibrant patterns on floors, walls, or tabletops. It is traditionally made during festivals like Diwali to celebrate auspicious occasions.

The winner of the Rangoli competition was determined by a vendor poll following the competition.

Participants competed for a chance to win grand prizes sponsored by the City of Montgomery Department of Cultural Affairs. Their kites were voted on in three categories:

  • Highest Flying Kite
  • Longest Flying Kite (time in the sky)
  • Most Creative Kite Design (judged via social media)

Tablers and Vendors

Local businesses and organizations were invited to participate in the event by renting a booth to share their mission, business, and/or services with the Montgomery community. This was a great way to meet more of the community, as well as build relationships between our local businesses and organizations.
 
All culturally diverse businesses and organizations were invited to be a part of this community celebration.

Vendor registration fee: $10 (includes 1 table & 2 chairs; your organization can have multiple booths if necessary)

Please bring your business or organization tablecloth, banner, business cards, coupons, freebies, pamphlets or any other marketing/promotional material that you will have to show and/or give out at your table.
