OUR HISTORY
ALIEEP is the expanded version of A-KEEP (Alabama-Korea Education and Economic Partnership), which began in December 2011 with a Global Youth Leadership program between the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education in South Korea and the Alabama State Department of Education. A-KEEP became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2012, focusing on providing multilingual, multicultural education to students and professionals in Alabama and Korea, and facilitating global partnerships to support economic growth in both regions.
A-KEEP’s key achievements include promoting educational policy improvements, advocating for workforce development, and fostering economic ties between Alabama and South Korea. Notable accomplishments include the passing of the Alabama Seal of Biliteracy (HB46) in 2022, the establishment of the STEAM Educator Program, and the creation of the B.U.D. programs (Bridge of Unity in Diversity) in 2014.
In 2020, A-KEEP facilitated the creation of an MOU with the Korean Ministry of Education to address the shortage of STEM educators in Alabama. Additionally, A-KEEP started the Korean education program for K12 schools in Alabama in 2015 and established the accredited Korean language program in 2020.
Through support from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, A-KEEP launched two annual B.U.D. (Bridge of Unity in Diversity) programs: Challenge America, focused on multicultural music and dance, and Make & Take, which introduces diverse craft arts.
In 2023, A-KEEP officially rebranded as ALIEEP to expand its mission to include more nations, cultures, languages, and ethnicities, with a focus on enhancing multicultural education, workforce development, economic prosperity, and international partnerships.
