Board Meeting

Organizational Communication and Professional Participation

ALIEEP is a highly organized nonprofit organization that holds a Board Meeting once every three months with participation from members of the Board of Directors. During my internship, I was fortunate to attend one of these meetings and observe how organizational planning, communication, and decision-making are carried out within a nonprofit setting.

Meeting Information

Date: March 10, 2026

Location: RSA Building – 7th Floor Conference Room

Format: Hybrid meeting conducted both in person and through Zoom

Participating in the board meeting gave me valuable insight into the professional operations of a nonprofit organization, including program updates, organizational planning, event coordination, and communication between leadership members.

During the meeting, I briefly presented information about the upcoming TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language), which was scheduled to take place on October 31, 2026. I explained how students could use the exam as a way to regularly assess and track their Chinese language learning progress over time.

I also introduced the connection between TOCFL and the Alabama Seal of Biliteracy, emphasizing how language certification can support students in demonstrating bilingual proficiency and gaining additional academic recognition. Sharing this information during the board meeting allowed me to practice professional presentation skills in a formal organizational setting while contributing to ALIEEP’s language education outreach efforts.

Through this experience, I gained a better understanding of nonprofit leadership structure, collaborative decision-making, and the importance of clear communication within organizational management.
