Before the end of my internship, nearly 20 students had completed the TOCFL registration form after participating in the promotional sessions and classroom introductions. Although the registration process was still ongoing, this response showed growing student interest in Chinese language certification and the Alabama Seal of Biliteracy opportunity.
Considering that only two people had registered for the TOCFL exam over the previous two years combined, and that no one registered during the previous year, having nearly 20 students willing to complete the registration form this year was already far beyond expectations. This result demonstrated that consistent school outreach, classroom engagement, and accessible promotional materials could significantly increase student awareness and interest in language certification opportunities.
This experience also demonstrated how school outreach, classroom engagement, and accessible promotional materials can help encourage students to explore additional language-learning opportunities beyond their regular coursework.
