Montgomery, Alabama, May 5, 2025 – Students, families, educators, and community members gathered at Vaughn Forest Church for the 2026 Pike Road High School and Junior High School Korean Class End-of-Year Performance. Led by Korean Language Teacher Mary Chon, the event celebrated a year of language learning, cultural exploration, and student achievement through a variety of performances showcasing Korean culture.

Throughout the evening, students demonstrated the skills they developed during the school year through traditional Korean music, storytelling, dance, language activities, and cultural presentations. The program reflected the dedication of students who have spent the year learning Korean language and culture while gaining a deeper appreciation for global perspectives.

The performance featured a variety of special presentations, including vocal performances, instrumental solos, K-pop dance routines, and student-led conversation activities. Students confidently took the stage to demonstrate both their artistic talents and their growing understanding of Korean language and culture.

Class performances highlighted traditional and contemporary elements of Korean culture. Students performed Samulnori, a traditional Korean percussion performance, presented Korean folktales such as The Little Green Frog and The Golden Ax and the Silver Ax, participated in a Flag Dance performance of Arirang, showcased a Sogo Nanta drum performance, and presented the Heavenly Hope Fashion Show. These performances allowed students to bring their classroom learning to life while sharing their knowledge with family members and guests.

The evening also served as a celebration of student leadership and achievement. During the awards ceremony, students were recognized for their contributions to the Korean language program, K-Wave Club, conversation activities, dance programs, and webtoon initiatives. Several graduating seniors were honored for their participation and commitment to the program, while outstanding students received recognition from the Korean Education Center in Atlanta.

Special recognition was given to Mary Chon, who teaches all Korean language classes at Pike Road Junior High and High School. Described by her students as the creative force behind the evening’s presentations, her dedication has helped students develop not only language proficiency but also an appreciation for Korean culture and traditions. Additional recognition was given to Music Assistant Paul Lee and Student Assistant Logan Hadley for their contributions to the success of the program.

Programs such as the Pike Road Korean Language Program demonstrate the growing interest in global education and cultural exchange within Alabama schools. Through language instruction, cultural activities, and performance opportunities, students gain valuable communication skills while developing a broader understanding of the world around them.

Congratulations to all of the students, families, educators, and community partners who contributed to a successful and memorable evening. Their hard work and dedication made the 2026 Korean Class End-of-Year Performance a fitting celebration of learning, achievement, and cultural understanding.
