Taiwan trainees participating in an ALIEEP international training program at the American Revival Helpers Tent.

On October 13, 2025, ALIEEP participated in the American Revival’s Helpers Tent event at the Capri Theatre, organized by Ernest Lyford LLC. The event provided an opportunity for several organizations—both nonprofit and for-profit—to engage with community members following two screenings of the film “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

Our trainees, Sandy, Miffy, and Yiling, are enjoying the festivities. Admire their handmade buttons.

ALIEEP’s Bridge Builders invested in creating an experience for the community members. For example, the trainees brought the Taiwanese Night Market to Montgomery by having people play ring toss for prizes. The game was set up inside a chalk outline of Taiwan.

Additionally, participants engaged in a Taiwanese information quiz, incorporating a learning aspect to the interaction. The quiz questioned community members about Taiwan’s history or provided small facts. Our trainees conversed with people from various backgrounds and ages, providing a beneficial exchange.

During the lively American Revival event, I had the chance to interact with local people and learn more about Montgomery and its local issues through other community organizations. Building on these meaningful interactions, we also took this opportunity to promote Taiwan in a fun way—showing them where it is on the world map! Even though Taiwan is as small as Maryland, it’s full of mountains, including the highest peak in East Asia.”

Ring toss is extremely popular in Taiwan. Our trainees brought the Night Market to Montgomery, AL.

Surprise appearances from Nicholas Ma, President of Ernest Lyford LLC and filmmaker, and Alfre Woodard, a four-time Emmy and Golden Globe actress. Both conversed with organization representatives and community members, showcasing the mission behind the event: community and connection.

The festivities included Electric Blue Yonder, food trucks, face painting, and cornhole. Our Bridge Builders enjoyed being amongst the community we serve. Connections and lasting impressions were made.

During the event, I explored booths hosted by various local non-profits and participated in workshops to better understand their impact, such as button-making and instrument playing. It was lovely! I also met local people who were drawn to ALIEEP’s programs and Taiwan’s ring toss game, making the event both impressive and memorable. Overall, the event deepened our connection with the local community.”

Attracting locals with a Taiwanese night market ring toss game, introducing our mission to promote multilingual education, and helping them learn more about Taiwan through fun quizzes provided an opportunity to interact with the Montgomery community. The event sparked curiosity about Taiwanese culture and led to several conversations with families who expressed interest in language programs. I found the entire experience both interesting and educational.”

It deepened my understanding of social issues and the need for community access. I view the work of organizations advocating for multi-use trails not just as promoting recreation, but as a strategy for reducing health disparities. This systemic knowledge is highly applicable: it will enable me to advocate for projects by emphasizing their role in building more connected and inclusive communities.”
