On November 19, 2025, at 3:45 PM, Pike Road High School’s K-WAVE Club began its end-of-semester showcase. The event was held on the library’s second floor. Each table had La Croix in flamingo beverage holders. Red and blue circles with ‘K’s and waves decorated the walls. The library brimmed with energy and excitement. Club members filled the room, chatting and moving around. I saw many dance team members practicing choreography before the start time.
Mrs. Mary Chon and a volunteer quickly set up the speaker system. She played the KPOP Demon Hunters playlist while waiting for parents and student supporters. Around 4:00 PM, the showcase officially began. Club President Jaden greeted the few parents attending. Most of the audience were club members, but two families came to see the performances.
The program highlighted three K-WAVE Club teams: the webtoon team, the conversational team, and the dance teams. The Webtoon Team started the event. Each artist showed their work to the audience. Many students were shy when sharing their creative expressions. Still, the pieces were bold, creative, and emotional. Their work covered topics like anime, emotions, role models, and self-portraits. One student shared her reputation as a corgi, reflecting her cute, loyal personality. Two other students drew several well-known anime characters, such as Dragon Ball Z and Demon Slayer.
Next, the Conversational Team performed a script about cell phone use. The team includes both native Korean speakers and American students. Differences in speaking skills were seen, but each student spoke confidently and read their lines. Jaden’s acting in response to his teammates sparked laughter. After finishing the script in Korean, the team translated it into English for the audience. The main point of the script was to limit phone use and prioritize human interaction. This is a deep topic for a generation known for technology and electronics.
Jaden then performed a guitar solo. His skill level surprised many of his peers and the parents. I was stunned by his performance, but I kept calm to film a quality video. After the solo, a club member asked if the song was original. It was not.
The dance teams performed last. Addison started with a solo to Stray Kids’ “Chik Chik Boom.” Flyght’s duo followed with original choreography to “JUMP” by BLACKPINK. The Cyber Sirens duo closed with a dance cover of aespa’s “Supernova.” Each team showed a unique personality. All performers were confident and powerful, displaying their dance skills and love for KPOP music.
The showcase ended with all the officers cutting the club cake and taking a group picture. Every attendee was handed a chocolate cake and chips. Jaden and Ms. Mary thanked everyone for attending the end-of-semester ceremony. Despite 15 club members being absent due to band practice, the intimate showcase was a success. All were informed that the Spring dates for the club remain ambiguous at this time.
