Historical heroes Yu Gwan Sun of Korea, Sarojini Naidu of India, Martin Luther King, JR. and Maya Angelou make an unlikely appearance to share their stories of peaceful activism in this all – too- timely story.

At AWAKE (Academy for World Arts, Knowledge, and Equality), cultural diversity is celebrated. But when Ava is confronted with bullying in her school, how will she overcome her quietness of spirit to take a stand for what is right? Characters In The Show

  • Ava – A thoughtful and compassionate young girl discovering her voice to create positive change through courage, unity, and love. 
  • Maddie – Famale middle schooler, sassy and commanding. She cares a lot about that people think.
  • Headmaster Vaughn – male administrator. He runs AWAKE and loves his job. 
  • Mrs. Wright – Female teacher. She is a great teacher, and she knows it. She also knows the kids well and cares deeply for each of them, even the “bad” ones. She’s got a twinkle in her eye (which helps her see through facades)   
  • Dominick – Male middle schooler, angry, smart and a smart aleck. He has teen angst with no outlet, so he is a bully. 
  • Sarah – A female Indian student at the school. She is participating in the cultural arts fair and cares a lot about her grades, but also about human rights. She dances with The Nightingales.  
  • Mrs. Jones – A mom bringing her kids to AWAKE for the first time. A little nervous, also excited and self-effacing.  
  • Yuri – A female Korean student at the school. She is present in the cultural arts fair and has dedicated a lot of time and energy into not only project, but those helping her with the project she’ passionate about.  
  • Maya Angelou – A female activist, poet, speaker, and sensation. Ms. Angelou comes back from the depths of history to help Ava tell her story.  
  • MLK. JR.– Possibly one of the most famous peaceful protest activists since Ghandi. Dr. King also comes from the depths of history to help Ava tell her story.
